Bull’s Eye Bead
Bull’s eye or a red tiger’s eye. The stone forms by the tiger’s eye reddening influenced by thermal processes during rock formation. The most famous deposits are the Doorn Mountains in South Africa. Apart from this locality, the natural stone is quite rare. That is why it is usually made by firing the tiger’s eye with 500°C temperature, during which the stone gets its typical red-brown tint. If we look at its chemical structure, bull’s eye is a variety of quartz with intergrowths of parallel fibres of the so-called crocidolite asbestos.
