Mugglestone
Mugglestone is a colour variant of banded jasper with a significant portion of hematite. It was discovered by J. Muggle, who gave the stone its name, in the twentieth century. For its marvellous colour and structure, mugglestone has become a popular material for engraving, cabochon cutting and tumble stone processing. This piece is from South Africa.
Mugglestone uniqueness: You can recognise mugglestone for its striking alternation of pastel colours – from red and yellow to brown, (the intensity of brown colour depends on iron oxide concentration). Some parts of mugglestone contain almost pure hematite with a metallic lustre.
Special conditions/ treatment: There is no need for special handling with mugglestone.
