Obsidian Snowflake Donut
Obsidian is also known as volcanic glass. The material formed uniquely – during rapid cooling of hot lava, e.g. in water or on the Earth’s surface. The process was too quick for the individual minerals to crystalise. Snowflake obsidian is a real marvel. The material formed two and a half million years ago during a volcanic eruption in Black Spring, Utah, which is the only place on Earth where you can find it. On a black foundation of this stone shine its signature white “snowflakes” formed by cristobalite crystal inclusions. If we look at its chemical structure, snowflake obsidian is a natural variety of volcanic silicate glass.
