Spinel Black
Spinel is a mineral shading in many colours. Our pieces come in black shades; however, spinel occurs also in green, pink, red or blue. In 1779, the Belgian naturalist Jean Demeste named Spinel after the stone’s sharp octagonal crystals. Spinel is a hard mineral with a high lustre, used in jewellery as a more affordable replacement for black diamond. If we look at its chemical structure, black spinel is a variety of corundum.
